Jonatan Sersam
Jonatan Sersam (born 2 June 1986 in Lövestad) is a composer of classical contemporary music. He studied at the Malmö Academy of Music from 2008-2014 with professors such as Luca Francesconi and Rolf Martinsson. His works have been performed by professional ensembles such as Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester, Norrköpings Symfoniorkester, John Bauer Brass, Swedish Wind Ensemble, Ruidho Vermelho, Musica Vitae [1] and The Kreutzer Quartet among others. His music is defined by rhythmic drive, polymodal harmony and unconventional dramaturgical structures. Jonatan Sersam is also an active pianist and improviser.
Biography
Jonatan Sersam was born 1986 into a family of musicians and actors. His father, Rolf Sersam worked with film and stage music as well as in the progressive rock band Storm (1973–1977). His mother, Anna-Karin Sersam has a background as a mime and works as a playwright and actress for young children. Jonatan Sersam started playing the piano at the age of 8 and studied at the Malmö Kulturskola. After that he entered music high school. After being rejected on his first application to the piano program at the Academy of Music, he studided literature and drama at Malmö Högskola for one year. After that he applied for Sundsgårdens Folkhögskola to study composition with Per-Ingvar Reuter. He then applied to the classical arranging program at the Academy of Music in Malmö in 2008 where he was accepted. After three years he applied to the composition program to study for Luca Francesconi for four years.
