Jon Jang
Jon Jang (Chinese: 胡健良; pinyin: Hú Jiànliáng; born March 11, 1954) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. Of Chinese ancestry, he is active in the Asian American jazz movement and specializes in music which combines elements of jazz and Asian musics.
Career
Jang holds a B.M. degree in music performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (1978). He has performed with David Murray, James Newton, Anthony Brown, Mark Izu, Jiebing Chen, Liu Qi-Chao, and Max Roach.
The Jon Jang Sextet performed at the Beijing Jazz Festival in 1997.
Jang lives in San Francisco, California. He has recorded for the Asian Improv and Soul Note labels. He has performed at the Chinatown Music Festival.[1][2]
