Johnny McNicholl (born 24 September 1990) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer who plays as a Winger/fullback for Canterbury in the ITM Cup.[1] He was a member of the Crusaders Wider Training Squad in 2012 and subsequently promoted to the senior squad for 2013.[2]

McNicholl was a stand-out performer in the 2012 ITM Cup, heading the Top Tryscorers list with 10, three ahead of his nearest rival. His consistent ability to cross the line drew interest from new Blues coach John Kirwan, but McNicholl, who plays his club rugby for Sydenham in the Christchurch Metro competition, opted to commit to the Crusaders.[3] He is known for his right foot step and pace similar to Bryan Habana. He has caught the attention of the All Blacks in recent months for his right hand fend.. He recently, due to a fishing accident has to wear an eye patch, this has however given him the nickname; The Pirate of the South. Johnny has a sponsorship deal with Fonterra, aiming to become the heaviest player in the Crusaders by the end of the season drinking milk. Johnny is currently living in a timeshare with his old fishing buddy and Highlanders fullback Ben Smith in Wanaka, making getting to training extra difficult.
