John Souttar (born 25 September 1996)[1] is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Scottish Premiership club Dundee United and the Scotland national under-19 football team.
Early life
Souttar was born in Aberdeen. He attended Luthermuir Primary. Souttar has a younger brother, Harry who currently plays for Dundee United at academy level,[2] and a younger sister, Mhiran. His father is called Soapy and his mother is called Heather.[3] and now attends Mearns Academy.[4]
Playing career
Club
Souttar was a youth player at Brechin City Boys Club before joining Dundee United in 2006 at the age of 9.[5][6] A member of the club's under-20 squad,[7] Souttar made his first team debut on 2 January 2013, playing from the start in a 2–2 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie Stadium.[8] Aged 16 years and 99 days, he became the youngest ever player to play for United.[9] On 24 January 2013, Souttar signed an extended contract keeping him at the club until January 2016.[10] Souttar made an appearance at Hampden Park against Celtic in a Scottish Cup semi final at the age of just 16 in 4–3 defeat on 14 May 2013. On 4 November 2013, Souttar signed an extension to his contract, keeping him at the club until May 2016.[11] Souttar scored his first goal for Dundee United in a New Years Day Scottish Premiership match against local rivals Aberdeen F.C.[12]
International
He has represented Scotland at U17 level,[13] making his debut on 28 August 2012, in a 0–0 draw against Belgium.[14] To date Souttar has made six appearances for them.[13] In 2013, Souttar made his debut for the Scotland under-19 team.
