John Mosely Turner (Mitcham, South London, 15 June 1856 – Tottenham, 21 March 1968)[1] was a British supercentenarian and the oldest recognised living person for more than two years. Turner was the 11th person to hold the title of oldest living person since its inception.[2]

Biography

Born in Mitcham, Turner was a former silk print cutter, and teetotaller. He had been blind since the age of 73.[3] Turner was first listed in the 1964 edition of the Guinness World Records as Britain's oldest man, and became the oldest man in the world on 6 August 1965, upon the death of William Fullingim. Turner died at his home in Tottenham at age 111 years, 280 days.
