John Joyner Snow, Jr. (born October 24, 1945) is a former Democratic member of the North Carolina Senate, who represented the 50th district from 2005 to 2011.[1] His district included Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain and Transylvania counties. Snow was the co-chair of the Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.
Franklin orthodontist Jim Davis denied Snow his fourth term in the Senate by a margin of 199 votes.[2] Snow was defeated by a deceptive negative direct-mail campaign, funded by multi-millionaire Art Pope, as part of a national Republican strategy designed to give Republicans control of state legislatures nationwide.[3] In 2012, Snow is running to return to his former seat in the Senate.[4]
John Snow Jr. was also a standout on the gridiron prior to his career in politics. A defensive tackle for Wake Forest University, Snow was drafted in the 15th round of the 1967 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.
