John J. O'Meara

John J. O'Meara (18 February 1915 – 12 February 2003) was an Irish philosopher and theologian, considered one of the great scholars of Augustine of Hippo.

Biography

O'Meara was born in Eyrecourt to Mary Donnellan of Loughrea and Patrick O'Meara of Cappagh, Portumna. Educated in Eyrecourt and Ballinasloe and University College Dublin, graduating with an M.A. in 1939. He held posts in, and lectured at, St Stanislaus College(Tullamore), Clongowes Wood College, Oxford, Dublin, the Sorbonne and Princetown. He married Odile de Barthas de Montfort in Paris in 1949.
