John Hume (bishop)
John Hume (1705[1]–14 August 1782) was an English bishop.
Life
He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford.[2] He became a Canon of Westminster (28 June 1742–1748)[3] and a Canon of St Paul's (30 March 1748–1766).[4]
He was rector of Barnes, London from 1747 to 1758; he was appointed bishop of Bristol in 1756.[5] In 1758 he became bishop of Oxford and Dean of St Paul's, and in 1766 bishop of Salisbury.[6]
He married Lady Mary Hay, youngest daughter of the eighth earl of Kinnoull.[7]
