John Gibson Wright

John Gibson Wright (1837 – November 2, 1890) was an American Union brevet brigadier general during the period of the American Civil War. During the war, he led the 51st New York Volunteer Infantry.[1] He was promoted to the rank of major in March 1863. In December 1864, he was made a lieutenant colonel. He served in the Eastern Theater at Sulphur Springs, Bristow Station, Second Bull Run, and Chantilly.[2] At Petersburg, Major Wright was captured along with George Whitman, the brother of Walt Whitman.[3] He received his appointment as brevet brigadier general dated to March 13, 1865.[4]
