Early life

Born in Houston, Texas, on Thanksgiving Day 1954, Dr. Demartini was one of two children. Born with a birth defect he had to endure hand and leg braces early in his life and at the age of seven he was told by his first grade teacher that he had a learning disability and would never read, write or communicate and not go far in life. Diagnosed with dyslexia and a speech impediment he struggled at school and at fourteen he was a high school dropout, living on the streets and panhandling for food to survive. He moved to Hawaii at seventeen to surf and lived on the beach and there he contracted severe strychnine poisoning and almost died.

Attending a yoga course by Paul Bragg altered his life and he then began the process of rebuilding his life.[9]

Personal life

In 1983 he married Denise Roffal - the marriage ended in divorce in 1991. The marriage produced three children. Demartini married his second wife Athena Starwoman in 1992; she died in December 2004 from breast cancer.

In 1982 Demartini received the Salutatorian Award and the Special Achievement Award in Clinical Practice from The Texas Chiropractic College.

He was an invited guest at the Waldzell Conference in Austria on social transformation and inspiration (September 2008).[10]

Recipient of the top honour at the Annual (XL) Extraordinary Lives Awards held in Singapore (September 2008).[11]
