John Kenneth Buck, CNZM, OBE, is the current chairman of the Te Mata Estate winery and is known for his contribution to the New Zealand wine industry.

Career

He was involved in wine judging in New Zealand and Australia for many years, joining in 1969. In 1979, he became chairman of judges for the national wine show, the first New Zealander to have had this position. Also, he is now chairman of Hawkes Bay Opera House and also was chairman of Hawkes Bay vintners. From 1991 to 1996 he served as chairman of the New Zealand wine institute. Buck is married, with three sons and five grandchildren.[1]

Accolades

Buck has earned many awards over the years. These include the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal, an OBE for services to the wine institute (1995) and a fellowship of the Wine Institute of New Zealand in 2000.

In the 2013 New Year Honours, Buck was appointed as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to the wine industry and the arts.[2]
