John Atirau Asher

John Atirau Asher (8 August 18921966) was a New Zealand tribal leader, hotelier, interpreter, racehorse owner. Of Māori descent, he identified with the Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Pukenga and Te Arawa iwi. He was born in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand on 8 August 1892.[1]

Asher was the 10th of 11 children - his brothers included Ernie and Albert Asher.
