John Albers (born August 18, 1972) is a Senate Republican in the 153rd Georgia General Assembly from Roswell, Georgia.[1] Albers was first elected Senator in the 2010 general election and serves Georgia's 56th district encompassing northern portions of Fulton County and southeastern portions of Cherokee County. This includes all of Roswell and Mountain Park and parts of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, and Woodstock.[2]
Early life and education
Senator Albers earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Louisville and is a fraternal member of Sigma Phi Epsilon serving on the KY Beta Alumni Board.[3] Albers also graduated from the University of Georgia Legislative Leadership Institute.
Senator Albers transformed his leadership training into a consistent demonstration of effective leadership. He has earned a seat on several boards of directors, including:
The World Chamber of Commerce;[4] The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce;[4] the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation (former chairman);[5] Chamberlain Nursing College, MediStreams, Saratoga Holdings, Concord and Gilsbar Holding Company,
Senator Albers is a member of The Heritage Foundation's President's Club[6] and a benefactor to the Roswell Historical Society,[7] the Friends of Bullock Hall,[8] and Roswell's Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. Senator Albers is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 319 actively supporting veterans.
John Albers is well known in Roswell for his efforts and selfless acts of community support. He is a mentor, coaching young people for Roswell Area Park's youth athletics program, and a dedicated Scout Leader. John Albers is a devout Methodist and is regularly seen volunteering at the Roswell United Methodist Church; supporting their Job Networking program.
Senator Albers is continuing a family tradition as a fourth generation firefighter and member of the Georgia Firefighters Association. Albers is an active firefighter with the Alpharetta Public Safety Department. In 2011 the Georgia State Firefighters Association and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, jointly honored Senator Albers, naming him "Legislator of the Year". Senator Albers is a member of Georgia Carry,[9] and the National Rifle Association.
Political career
Senator Albers actively supports the Republican Party at every level of organization—from the Republican National Committee, through the Georgia Republican Party, to the Fulton County Republican Party and Cherokee County Republican Party.[10] Albers was elected in 2010 and sworn into the Georgia Senate in 2011. Senator John Albers was re-elected in 2012 and again 2014 with a 70% landslide victory. In the State Legislature, Senator Albers serves in the leadership as the Chief Deputy Whip, chairman of the Senate State and Local Governmental Operations Committee, and vice chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee.[1] He also sits on the Senate Finance and Appropriations committees.
