2000 D-IAA Independents Sports Information Directors Association Coach of the Year

Joseph "Joe" Susan (born September 18, 1955) is the current head coach of the Bucknell University Bison football team. Susan's second coaching stint at Bucknell (he was an assistant from 1981–1989) came on the heels of a nine-year tenure as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights offensive line and tight ends coach. He has been a head coach at one other school—Davidson—when he led the Wildcats to its program's only perfect season in 2000 (10–0). Susan only stayed at Davidson for one season.

Susan played college football at the University of Delaware from 1973–1976; his senior season he was named the Newark Touchdown Club Offensive Lineman of the Year. The Fightin' Blue Hens won two Lambert Cups and were the NCAA Division II runners-up during his playing tenure.

Bucknell fifth-year head football coach Joe Susan was recently selected to the South River High School Wall of Fame. The award ceremony took place last month in Susan’s hometown of South River, New Jersey, and he was recognized by his alma mater.

A 1973 graduate of South River High School, Susan is in the midst of a long and fruitful football coaching career. He has spent the last five years on the Bison sideline, leading Bucknell to plenty of success, including a strong 8-3, 4-2 PL mark this past season. It was just the fifth time in school history a Bison squad won as many as eight games and Bucknell finished alone in second place in the Patriot League standings for the first time since 1997.

The 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year, Susan was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson FCS Coach of the Year Award in 2014.

Susan has overseen above-.500 records in three of the last four campaigns and his 24 victories place him 11th on Bucknell’s career victories list.[1]
