Biography
Joan Vila Dilme was born in 1966 in Spain. He worked as a security guard[2] at the La Caritat convalescent home in Olot.[3]
Vila was arrested on October 18, 2010[4] after the death of 85-year-old Paquita Gironès. Vila had forced her to drink bleach.[1][5] He confessed to killing 3 elderly patients by giving them bleach[5] Vila confessed to 8 more murders on November 30, 2010. He claimed he killed six by giving them a mixture of drugs and 2 by overdosing them on insulin.[3] He said he committed the murders to "end their suffering."[2] Two of the murders occurred in 2009, with the first in August. The other nine were committed in 2010.[3]
Vila was sentenced to 127 years in prison on June 20, 2013.[4] Psychologists Miguel Soria and Lluis Borrás said that “He feels like a woman trapped in a man’s body.”[6] Vila had revealed he was homosexual and claimed to “wearing my mother’s heels and clothes around the house when I was young.”[6] He also said he suffers from manic depression.[6]
