João Gomes (born May 2, 1985 in Fogo, Cape Verde), commonly known as Betinho, is a Portuguese basketball player[1] who currently plays for MoraBanc Andorra in the Spanish league.[2]
Career
Gomes played for FC Barreirense in Portugal, the club where he developed his basketball skills, and was noticed by American and European scouts. His performance with Barreirense led to an invitation to play in the Reebok EuroCamp 2006 and 2007 editions in Treviso. Betinho was draft eligible for the 2007 NBA Draft. After working out for several NBA teams such as the Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, and Detroit Pistons, he went undrafted.
João Gomes was also a member of the Portuguese National Team in 2009 in the qualifying round for Eurobasket 2009.
On August 22, 2011, Betinho was confirmed as a new signing for Benfica.
