James (Jim) Christensen is an economist, investor and mathematician who is currently the Chief Investment Officer at Telstra Super. He has over 15 years of experience and has been widely successful in the Australian investment industry. James is heavily quoted on his economic viewpoints in various Australian and international media as well as presenting at numerous functions.

Career

Jim was appointed to the role of Chief Investment Officer in 2009 on the 16th of December and manages over $15 Billion for the company.[1] In taking the position Jim succeeded Steve Merlicek.[2] The company are the largest corporate pension fund in Australia with over 100,000 members.[3]

Prior to his position at Telstra Super Jim was based in his home state of Queensland. He spent over 10 years at the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) managing some of the $54 Billion dollars the organisation were responsible for.[4] At this company Jim was given the position of Managing Director of the Active Management Division as well as chairing the alpha investment committee.[5] Ultimately, this meant Jim was responsible for determining and implementing investment strategies across all portfolios. Prior to working at QIC Jim also worked in Queensland Treasury.

In The Media

Over his career Jim has been featured in a number of live, televised and written pieces of media. His economic opinions have been recorded in a number of leading magazines, journals and newspapers. These articles most commonly depict investment strategies with a particular focus on corporate asset management.[6] As a speaker Jim has presented at public functions around the world including conferences with the Centre for Investor Education (C.I.E.) and the Fund Executives Association Ltd (F.E.A.L.).[7][8] In addition to this he is often shown in online investor education videos (usually released by Telstra Super).

The returns of his funds investments are also heavily highlighted and scrutinized across Australian media. For the most part funds under his control are usually industry leaders.[9] In 2015 Jim was listed as a nominee for the prestigous Conexus Financial Superannuation CIO of the year award.[10] That same year it was also reported to some controversy that Jim earns over $500, 000 more then the CEO of Telstra Super.[11]

Education

James grew up in Childers, Queensland in Australia. After completing High School in Gin Gin, Queensland he went on to study at the prestigious University of Queensland. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Economics (BEc) and Master of Economics (MEc).
