Jessica Swale

Jessica Swale is an English theatre director, writer and playwright. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and the University of Exeter. She is the Artistic Director of Red Handed Theatre Company which she co-founded with Katie Bonna in 2006. Previously she worked as associate director at Out of Joint and Shakespeare's Globe.

She has directed a number of plays, including The Busy Body, The Belle's Stratagem (nominated for the Evening Standard Best Director award in 2011), Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, The Rivals, Mad Kings and Englishmen, The School for Scandal, The Glass Tower, Palace of the End, Bedlam, Winter, Finding Alice, etc. She has directed bilingual productions of Shakespeare in Bosnia and the Marshall Islands with Youth Bridge Global.

Swale has written a couple of books - Drama Games: For Classrooms and Workshops and Drama Games: For Devising. She has also written three plays - Blue Stockings , Nell Gwynn and an adaptation of The Secret Garden.[1]

Swale attended Kendrick Grammar School in Reading for secondary education.
