Jesse Lee Soffer is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Will Munson on As the World Turns for which he received three Emmy nominations. He currently stars in Chicago P.D. as Detective Jay Halstead.

Early life

Soffer was born in Ossining, New York.[1] His family moved around Ossining and Tarrytown a lot before moved to Connecticut. He is the son of Stan and Jill Soffer. He has three half-sisters and a half-brother.

He attended classes at New York University (NYU).[2]

Career

Soffer's acting career began at age six when he landed a Kix cereal commercial.[3] In 1993 at age of eight, he made his feature film debut opposite John Goodman and Cathy Moriarty in the movie Matinee. Soon after he was cast as Susan Sarandon and Sam Shepard's son Percival in the family drama Safe Passage. In 1995, he played the role of Bobby Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie and returned for A Very Brady Sequel a year later.[4] Continuing the pattern of working with Oscar-calibre and A-list talent, the young actor starred as a runaway turned sleuth Jamie Kincaid in the TV movie From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, where he held his own scenes with the legendary Lauren Bacall. Additionally, Soffer worked with director Richard Shepard in AMC's longform presentation, The Royale. In 1998, Soffer was cast as a series regular on the Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen ABC sitcom, Two of a Kind. He originated the role of Max Nickerson on the daytime soap opera CBS serial Guiding Light in 1999.

After four months on the show, he decided to focus on his studies and put himself through The Gunnery a boarding school in Washington, Connecticut. Upon graduation, Soffer realized that he still yearned to act and once again began to actively pursue a career in front of the camera. In 2004, he took over the role of Will Munson on As the World Turns, a role he portrayed until April 4, 2008. As of 2008, he has earned three Emmy nominations for his portrayal of troubled youth Will Munson role on ATWT as well as a Soap Opera Digest Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Lead Actor in 2005. Soffer made his return to the big screen in Davis Guggenheim's independent feature film Gracie, playing the son of Elizabeth Shue and Dermot Mulroney. In the film, he was able to combine his real life passion for soccer as a star high school player. In July 2010, Soffer resumed the role of Will on As the World Turns. Soffer can also be seen in the 20th Century Fox film In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. From that point on, his work included guest lead roles on television series such as CSI: Miami,The Mentalist and Rizzoli & Isles. In 2012, Soffer starred in FBC's ensemble drama The Mob Doctor as the streetwise brother of the series' title character.[5][6] He then played Travis Alexander in Lifetime's original movie Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret.[7][8]

In June 2013, it was reported Soffer had joined the cast of NBC's Chicago Fire spin-off Chicago P.D..[9][10] His character was introduced in the second season of Chicago Fire.[11] The spin-off premiered in January 8, 2014.[12] On March 19, 2014, NBC renewed the series for a second season.[13] NBC has officially announced it will premiere September 24, 2014. He does his own stunts on Chicago P.D..[14][15]
