Jeongseon Alpine Centre
Location in South Korea

Jeongseon Alpine Centre (정선 알파인 경기장) is an alpine skiing area being developed in South Korea. It is located on the site of Jungbong, in the township of Bukpyeong-myeon in the county of Jeongseon.

Jeongseon Alpine Centre will be a venue for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, hosting the alpine speed events of Downhill, Super-G, and Combined. It will accommodate 6,000 spectators.

The men's downhill is projected to start at an elevation of 1,430 m (4,690 ft), with a course length of about 3.36 km (2.09 mi), to a finish area at about 550 m (1,800 ft). The vertical drop of 880 m (2,890 ft) surpasses the minimum drop of 800 m (2,625 ft) required by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The women's downhill will use another run with a length of 2.72 km (1.69 mi) and a vertical drop of 790 m (2,590 ft).

The technical events of slalom and giant slalom are scheduled for Yongpyong Alpine Centre.

Some environmental groups are opposed to using Jungbong as an alpine skiing venue, as the vast forested area is currently protected as a nature reserve.[1]
