Jennifer Anne Ognibene, known by her stage name Jenny O., is an American singer-songwriter, based in Los Angeles, California.

Early life and education

Jenny O. grew up on Long Island, New York, and cites her father, the frontman of a hometown cover band, as a main influence.[1] She attended State University of New York at New Paltz for Jazz Studies and later graduated from the Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York at Purchase for recording and composition.[2]

Career

Automechanic (2013 - present)

Jenny O. released her debut album, "Automechanic" on February 5, 2013 (Holy Trinity Records).[3] It was produced by Jonathan Wilson in Echo Park, Los Angeles. The recordings feature Jenny O., Jonathan Wilson, James Gadson, Jake Blanton (of the American rock band The Killers), and Benji Lysaght.

She appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly, with her band Jenny O. and the High Society on December 12, 2013, performing her songs "Seashells" and "Automechanic."[4] They appeared again on the show March 13, 2014 to perform "Lazy Jane" and "Learned My Lessons." [5]

In 2014, Jenny O. sang the theme song for Selfie on ABC[6] and the song "Lucky" by Kat Edmonson for a Coca-Cola commercial, which aired during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.[7] She recorded a cover of "1941" for the compilation album, This Is The Town - A Tribute To Harry Nilsson (Volume 1), released February 4, 2014 on Royal Potato Family.[8] She also contributed "Ragtime Queen" to "Fraggle Rock - Dream a Dream and See," a compilation of covers from the hit television series, released July 25, 2013.[9]

Jenny O. appears as a background vocalist on albums Fanfare by Jonathan Wilson, Division Street by Harper Simon, and Soft by Luke Rathborne, all released in 2014.[10][11][12]

Home EP (2010 - 2012)

Jenny O. released a five-song extended-play album, Home, in November 2010 on Manimal Records. Tracks off the EP were licensed for the video game Rocksmith, for television series True Blood, Wilfred, Off the Map, and for advertising campaigns by Subaru, Toyota, Roxy (clothing) and Target.

In 2011, Jenny O. recorded the Buddy Holly song "I'm Gonna Love You Too" for tribute album Rave On Buddy Holly, released on Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group); the album also included tracks by Paul McCartney, Fiona Apple, Patti Smith and Lou Reed. In the same year she recorded Pink Floyd's "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" and "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2" for a compilation entitled Cool For School, a benefit for school nutrition released on Manimal Vinyl.[13]

She contributed backing vocals to two recordings by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy; "Hummingbird" by Leon Russell[14] and "I'll See You Again" by Roy Harper, both produced by Jonathan Wilson and released in 2012.[15]

Jenny wrote and recorded "Get Down For The Holidays" for The Christmas Gig, a compilation album sponsored by retailer Target.[16] In the same year she released an electronic single entitled "Somewhere," which was licensed for Pantene (Europe) and Wild Fox.[17]

Early work

In 2008, she completed a full-length album titled Love and Sleep, produced by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace and Jason Lader.[18] This album has not been released.[19]

Jenny was a member of the LA Ladies Choir, who released one album "Sing Joyfully" on Teenage Teardrops Records in 2010.[20]

Touring

In fall of 2011, Jenny O. toured the US West Coast opening for Ben Harper and the Southwestern US opening for Leon Russell.[21]

She joined Father John Misty on two separate tours in spring and fall of 2012 to promote his album, Fear Fun.[22] In the summer of 2012, she completed an 18-date tour of the United Kingdom.[23]

In 2013, she embarked on a tour of the U.S. and Europe, opening for Mexican-American psychedelic-folk musician, Sixto Rodriguez.,[24] She also joined The Revival Tour, performing alongside Chuck Ragan, Dave Hause of The Loved Ones, Tim McIlrath of Rise Against, and Rocky Votolato.[25]

Jenny O. completed a tour of the United States with Brazilian musician Rodrigo Amarante in the summer of 2014.[26]
