Jefferson Healthcare Hospital was established in 1890 as St. John's Hospital and is now part of Jefferson Healthcare. The hospital is an affiliate of Swedish Health Network.[1][2] It is a critical access hospital,[3][4] and the sole hospital in Jefferson County.

History

The hospital was founded in 1890 as St. John's Hospital, by the Sisters of Providence.[4][5] In 1975, Jefferson County acquired control of the hospital, and in 1985 was it renamed Jefferson General Hospital.[1] In 2004, the hospital was renamed Jefferson Healthcare Hospital since the organization included not only the hospital, but also a number of community clinics.[4][5]

In May 2013, the hospital revealed plans for a new 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) emergency and specialty services building.[6] The project is estimated to cost between 15 and 20 million, and remains tentative.[6]
