Philanthropy

Together with his wife Sharon, Stevens engages in a substantial amount of philanthropy, especially via the University of Arizona.[5] For example, in 2009 the couple donated $10 million to University of Arizona Athletics. The Lowell-Stevens Football Facility on the UA campus is partially named after the Stevens family.[6] And, at Gonzaga University there is the Stevens Center – a 72,000 square foot state-of-the-art indoor tennis and golf facility, the funding of which was mainly down to Jeff and Sharon Stevens and Jim and Gwen Powers. Jeff and Sharon Stevens have a connection to Gonzaga through their son Colin who graduated there in 2013 and managed the mens basketball team for three seasons. As Jim explained about the couple’s contribution: “We both love this school and love these students. That is what we are here for, the students. Gonzaga is full of great students and student-athletes because of the incredible faculty, staff and administration. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be a part of this great institution.”[7] The couple also gave a donation to the Salpointe School because of the role the school had in her personal growth. The donation of $1 million was earmarked for Salpointe’s Building Leaders and Legacy capital campaign. As Sharon explained: “It is pretty amazing to be able to go back and pinpoint so many people that made a lasting difference in my life. Salpointe remains with you for a lifetime. This is an investment well worth making. Salpointe is the only school of its kind in Tucson, and we want to ensure that many others have this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
