Jean Duvernoy
Jean Duvernoy (1917–2010) was a French medievalist and translator. Protestant, born in 1917 in Montbéliard, he began to study the Waldensians, and then, the catharism. He translated and edited a great number of sources, including Jacques Fournier's inquisition register, from which the French historian Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie extracted Montaillou: The Promised Land of Error. He was the first historian of catharism who purged their religions of esoteric myths.
