Jason Nightingale (born 20 September 1986 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a professional rugby league footballer for the St. George Illawarra Dragons of the Australian National Rugby League. A New Zealand international representative winger, he has spent his entire career to date at the Dragons with whom he won the 2010 NRL Premiership Nightingale was also a member of the winning New Zealand Kiwis team that beat Australia in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup Final. He was also part of New Zealand's team that won the 2014 Rugby League Four Nations competition.
Playing career
In August 2008, he was chosen for the New Zealand training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[1] He originally missed out of the final 24-man Kiwi squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, but was chosen as a replacement for the injured Brent Webb.[2][3]
In 2010, after the retirement of Wendell Sailor at the end of 2009, Nightingale began the season in the starting lineup on the wing. He scored two second-half tries to help the Dragons to achieve victory in the 2010 NRL Grand Final.In 2009, Nightingale was selected more often for St George Illawarra's feeder side Shellharbour Dragons.
In 2008, Nightingale was called up to play for the New Zealand Kiwis for the ANZAC day Test.[4] He was named in the New Zealand Kiwi's 49 man training squad alongside fellow Dragon's Chase Stanley and Rangi Chase for the rugby league world cup 2008.[5] For the 2010 Anzac Test, Nightingale was selected to play for New Zealand on the wing, scoring a try in their loss against Australia. Nightingale was chosen in the 2010 Four Nations Kiwi squad, scoring three tries in four games, including a 71st minute try in the final and combining several minutes later with Benji Marshall and Shaun Kenny-Dowall to set up a breathtaking 70 m match winning try. Nightingale's fine late season form saw him earning a place in Rugby League world's team of the year.[6] For the 2013 Anzac Test, Nightingale was selected to play for New Zealand on the wing in their loss again Australia.
Nightingale played for the Kiwis in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
Nightingale played in the 2014 Four Nations. He finished as the tournament's top try scorer with 5 tries after 4 games.
