After Pearl Harbor, on 8 December 1941, Japan led a task force from Formosa, which was, at the time, under their control. From there, they proceeded to invade several small islands and towns in the Philippines
The invasion
Despite suffering slight setbacks from a bombing against their invasion force earlier in the week, the Japanese were able to easily capture Jolo. This final captured point set the Japanese in a perfect position to capture Borneo.[1]
