Japan and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have had established diplomatic relations since May 1964.[1]
Bilateral relations
Relations between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago have been strengthened over the years by many visits, including the visit to Japan in 1974 of Eric Williams, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.[1]
The Embassy of Japan, Port of Spain, was opened in 1979.
The current Ambassador of Japan to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago is His Excellency Mr. Yoshimasa Tezuka.[2]
In October 2008, there were 32 Japanese citizens living in Trinidad and Tobago.[1]
