Jane Austen College is a secondary free school located in Norwich, owned by the Inspiration Trust, that opened in September 2014.[1] The school's Principal is Claire Heald.[2]
History
Plans for the school were announced in March 2013 with the intention to locate in central Norwich.[2] Jane Austen was approved by the Department for Education, on 22 May 2013, to open in September 2014.[3]
Academic organisation
The school will eventually have places to educate 1,100 students aged 11–18. The school specialises in English and humanities, and all pupils are required to study a language until age 16.[4] There are also classes on cultural education and the compulsory language study also includes Latin.[5] The school does not to set homework for its pupils, but instead has an extended school day finishing at 4:30 on Monday and Friday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the school remains open until 5:30 for students to take part in electives, an activity of the students choice such as Choir or Football. [1][5]
