Jan Jones (Georgia politician)

Jan Jones is an elected state representative in the U.S. state of Georgia. She serves in the Georgia assembly, which meets in the Capitol building in Atlanta. Her constituents include some of the northern Atlanta suburbs in Georgia's 46th district including parts of Milton and parts of Roswell and Alpharetta. She is a Republican and is currently the majority Speaker Pro Tempore. While in the legislature, she has focused on several initiatives, most notably spearheading the creation of two north Fulton county cities, Milton and Johns Creek.

Jan Jones received $7,000.00 from the payday lending industry in 2012.[1] Of this money, 2000.00 was from the Titlemax Management.[1] $2500.00 was given by Rod and Leslie Aycox each. [1] They are both associated with predatory lending. [2] Of note is that Leslie Aycox is listed in disclosure forms as "Home Maker". [1]

Jones also received $2500.00 from The American Federation for Children. (AFC) is an organization with roots in Milwaukee that promotes public school privatization through “voucher programs” and charter schools. It shares an address and leadership with its 501(c)(3) partner Alliance for School Choice (ASC).[3] There was major Legislation having to do with charter schools in the 2012 session which Jones co-sponsored. AFC is chaired by Betsy DeVos, the billionaire wife of Amway heir Dick DeVos (son of Amway founder Richard DeVos) and former chair of the Michigan Republican Party. In recent years, she has funneled tens of millions of dollars into school privatization efforts and other right-wing initiatives.[3]
