Jan Fryderyk Dobrowolski (born July 9, 1944, in Poland) is a Polish classical and jazz keyboardist and composer.

Jan Fryderyk Dobrowolski won first prizes at the competitions in Kalisz, "Jazz at the Oder" in Wrocław and the "Jeunesse Musical Festival" in Częstochowa. He made himself a name as a Chopin interpret, but then focussed on Jazz and World Music. He appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival with fellow bassplayer Zbigniew Bednarek (sometimes referenced as Jacek Bednarek) as Jan Fryderyk Dobrowolski Duo in 1972. Extraordinary band settings in live recordings with Charlie Mariano on saxophone and Alberto Alarcon with castanets[1] gained him high reputation among critics and became also a commercial success. He also composed and recorded music related to car driving and is the composer of music representing brands like Citroën and Opel.

The Polish-born pianist and composer, has had an unprecedented career. The winner of the GRAND PRIX CONCOURS DE PIANO 72 in Lyon, he is also winner of first prizes in five major music competitions. Appearances at many jazz festivals including the "International Jazz Festival Montreux 72" have made him internationally famous.

He is best known as the legendary Polish jazz pianist.

A concert in the "Fryderyk Chopin Society in the concert hall of the Palais Ostrogskich in Warsaw 1973 was a great honour for him.

In at the legendary WDR concert 1982 "Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra estemporaneo" with the WDR Radio Orchestra, in collaboration with Paul Glass, his talent came to full fruition. In many TV and radio concerts and festival worldwide, he consistently earned euphoric rave reviews. In a long-standing collaboration with the WDR/ TV Radio in Cologne, he headed the popular series "New Jazz Meeting WDR ".

For many years he worked with the American jazz saxophonist Charlie Mariano.

The range of his compositional work is enormous. In each Genre: musical, film and theatre music, free jazz, swing, songs, audio-visual projects and contemporary music plays and compositions at the highest level.

He is “an exceptional pianist of international standing. He belongs to the absolute top class”, writes the “RHEINISCHE POST from Düsseldorf.

Jan Fryderyk Dobrowolski graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic in Gliwice. The first music lessons he got were from his mother a concert pianist from the famous Krakow's Conservatory. He studied composition with the two great Polish composers Witold Lutoslawski and the Artur Malawski.
