Early years
While in high school, Williams played football, basketball, and track. Nebraska was the only college to offer him a scholarship for both football and basketball, and he therefore accepted, continuing on to play 4 years of both sports at Nebraska. Williams was a four-year letterwinner and earned All-Big Eight honors in 1981 and 1982.[1]
Education
Williams graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He completed a Masters of Science in Mass Communication at San Jose State University in 1993, and completed a Doctorate of Education in Organization and Leadership, including an emphasis in sports administration, at the University of San Francisco in 2000.[2]
Professional career

Williams was a huge comic book fan, particularly of Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian; in order to psyche himself up for big games he would visualize himself as one of those heroes.[4]
Williams spent six years as the Athletic Director for the Academy of Art University Urban Knights in San Francisco. Before Williams' hiring, Academy of Art did not have an intercollegiate athletic program. Williams and his staff created an NCAA Division II athletic department including over 200 student-athletes in 16 sports.[5]
Williams is currently the Associate Athletic Director of Diversity and Leadership Initiatives at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.[6]
