James Mwirigi Mworia is a Kenyan lawyer, accountant and business executive. He currently serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Centum Investment Company Limited.,[1] the largest publicly traded private capital firm in East Africa.[2] He has served in that capacity since 2008.

Background and education

Mworia was born in 1978. He attended Alliance High School, Strathmore University and University of Nairobi. He holds the degree of Bachelor of Laws from Nairobi University. Also, he is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.[3]

Work History

In 2001, Mworia began working as an at Centum Investments. His first assignment was as a filing clerk, despite having a law degree and several other financial and accounting diplomas and certificates.

He gradually rose through the ranks, and in 2005 he was appointed Chief Investment Officer at Centum Investments. A post he served until December 2006 before joining TransCentury as its Head of Investments.[4] In 2008, at the young age of 30, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Centum.[5] During the first six years as CEO, Centum has increased its asset base from KES:6 billion (US$69 million) in 2008 to approximately KES:30 billion (US$350 million).[6]

Personal life

James Mworia is married and is the father of two children.
