James Losh

James Losh (1763–1833) was a lawyer, reformer and unitarian in Newcastle upon Tyne and later a court recorder.

He was the first chairman of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway and the vice President of the The Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne from 1799 to 1833.

He kept a diary between the years 1796–1815.

He is discussed extensively in his cultural context in Jenny Uglow's book about his niece, Sarah Losh, on whom he was a significant influence. (Jenny Uglow, "The Pinecone: The Story of Sarah Losh--Forgotten Romantic Heroine--Antiquarian, Architect, and Visionary," Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2012).
