James Lawrence (born 22 August 1992) is an English football player who currently plays for AS Trenčín in the Fortuna Liga as a left wing-back.
Club career
After an early youth career in London with Enfield, Arsenal and Queens Park Rangers, Lawrence joined Dutch club HFC Haarlem in August 2008 aged 16. In June 2009 Lawrence transferred to Ajax Amsterdam where he played for two seasons at U18 and U19 finishing the 2009/10 season as Netherlands U19 Eerstedivisie Runners-up and in 2010/11 as Netherlands U19 Eerstedivisie Champions.[1] A season with Sparta Rotterdam U21's followed after which Lawrence was offered a first professional contract at the newly formed U23 team of Dutch Eredivisie club RKC Waalwijk.[2]
Combining academic study with football during the period with RKC Waalwijk, Lawrence graduated on 13 June 2014 from the Johan Cruyff Institute Amsterdam [3] with an International Master in Sports Management.
AS Trenčín
Lawrence transferred to AS Trenčín on 13 August 2014[4] aged 21 and scored on his debut the same day in a 2nd round Slovak Cup match against ŠK Strážske.[5] On 17 August 2014 Lawrence made his Fortuna Liga debut in a 4-2 win against Slovak Cup holders MFK Košice.[6] As of 25 April 2015 Lawrence had played 24 matches (15 starts) for AS Trenčín, winning 18, drawing 4 and losing 2 (PPG 2.42 | Goals Ratio 3.33).
International career
Lawrence's principal eligibility is to represent England but under FIFA rules he is also eligible to represent Wales, South Africa, Germany, India and The Netherlands.
