James King (priest)
James King DD (1715–1795) was a Canon of Windsor from 1774-1776[1] and Dean of Raphoe from 1776 - 1795.
Family
He was from Yorkshire.
His son, Captain James King, was a friend and companion of Captain James Cook in his last voyage round the world.[2]
Career
He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford.
He was appointed:
- Curate of St Mary Magdalene, Clitheroe
- Rector of Dunsfold 1774-1776
He was appointed to the third stall in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle in 1774, a position he held until 1776.
He was appointed Dean of Raphoe in 1776, a position he held until he died in 1795.
