James Edward Bradford (November 1, 1928 – September 13, 2013) was an American weightlifter and Olympic medalist. He received a silver medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.[1] He received a second silver medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.[2]
About
Bradford competed anywhere from 110 - 123 kg standing at 6 feet tall.[3] He died in September, 2013.
Career
Throughout Bradford's career he won a total of 2 silver medals. In 1960 he won the AAU heavyweight title and did so again in 1961. Ten years prior, he won the AAU Junior Championship in 1950. To his own misfortune, Bradford had to compete against some of the greatest lifters of all time. Placing second in this competition was the highlight of his career. Bradford had the opportunity to compete in the 1952 Olympics and 1951 World Championships however, he fell short from winning to the US competitor John Davis. In the 1954 World Championships, he placed second and in the 1959 World Championships and 1960 Olympics, he lost to Yury Vlasov from Russia.[3]
Death
Bradford died September 13, 2013 at Silver Spring, Maryland of congestive heart failure.[4]
