Jaime Dylan Ridge is a New Zealand celebrity. Jaime was born in 1993 in Sydney, to New Zealand rugby player and former All Black Matthew Ridge and then-wife Sally. Predominantly raised in Auckland, since 2011 she has been a student at The University of Auckland.[1] In 2012 Jaime appeared alongside mother Sally in The Ridges, a documentary reality tv show about their everyday lives.[2] Jaime has been in a relationship with 24-year-old[3] New Zealand basketball player Josh Bloxham since 2013.[4]

Early life

After marrying in 1988, Matthew and Sally had moved to Manly, Australia in 1990 so Matthew could play for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles rugby league club[5] Growing up Jaime was often in the public eye and appeared in gossip magazines.[1][6]

The family returned to New Zealand in 1997 so Matthew could captain the Auckland Warriors.[5] Jaime lived at 10 Amiria Street, Saint Marys Bay (in 2013 the most expensive suburb in the city),[7] the 794sqm, 3-storey[8] Auckland 'dream home' the Ridges built in 1998 before Matthew retired from sports in February 2000.[5] Following the couple's separation in 2001, the home was sold for $2.75 million.[9] In 2007,[8] through no fault of the Ridges, it turned out the home suffered from leaky building syndrome.[9] The subsequent owners, a pair of psychiatrists, sued for $680,000.[10] Matthew and Sally settled in 2009.[9]

After Sally resettled with fiance,[11] former Black Cap cricket player and businessman Adam Parore, Jaime lived at 41 Arthur Street, Freemans Bay.[12] The couple purchased the property in 2004 for $2.42 million[13] (including $1.212 million from Sally's family trust).[14] Intending to renovate,[15] in 2006 the couple were granted permission to demolish the 1900-built[16] villa after renovating to the current building code became more expensive than a complete rebuild.[13] After living in the house for only two months, the family discovered numerous problems.[12][16] Jaime and Sally regularly found evidence of rat infestation in the form of half-eaten food.[12] While waiting for council permission, Sally spent two years working on the blueprints for the new six-bedroom house.[15] The new house finally started being built in June 2007.[12] In the new house Jaime and her three siblings shared their own four-bedroom wing, each with their own bathroom.[15] Other features included a family infinity pool,[12] and custom made front doors with laser-engravings of the family's names.[11]

After splitting with Parore[17] in 2010,[11] the now-'lavish'[15] and 'palatial'[18] property, valued at $4.7 million in 2008[17] and at $6.1 million in 2010[19] sold for less than hoped,[17] but for over $6 million[18][20] in 2010. In 2013 court proceedings against Parore, Sally claimed to have lost $900,000 from the necessary and 'significant' rebuild.[14][20] As of June 2013, the property has a government valuation of $5.7 million[21]

Also in 2010, Sally and Parore's clothing company james & august (each 50% shareholders) was put into liquidation,[22] owing creditors over $1 million.[23] The company had been formed in 2004[24] The company had stores in Milford on the North Shore, Sylvia Park, and Dress Smart Onehunga.[23] A new store at the redeveloped The Plaza in Palmerston North was only traded for two months before closing down.[23] The liquidator's report blamed the company's failure on the recession following the Global Financial Crisis. Jaime had modelled the underwear and sleepwear brand with mother Sally.

To celebrate Jaime's 16th birthday, her and Sally went on a 'trip of a lifetime' to Paris, London, Los Angeles and New York.[25]

Following Sally's split with Parore, she reportedly 'sought refuge' from former underwear model Nicky Watson.[24] Eventually Jaime lived on Crummer Road, Grey Lynn[26] in a 3-bedroom house purchased in 2011.[22] In 2012 the family moved to the 13-bedroom[27] Herne Bay 'boarding house' Sally was seen purchasing in their television show The Ridges.[2] A self-confessed 'clean freek', Jaime found it difficult to adapt to her less privileged circumstances.[1] Sally purchased the house, downstairs with tenants to 'help pay the mortgage', borrowing $50,000 from her Tauranga-based[28] parents.[14]

As of mid-2013, Jaime currently lives in mother Sally's Auckland home along with boyfriend Josh Bloxham, Sally's current partner Warren Fenning, half-siblings Astin and Mclane 'Chicky', and Fenning's children with his former wife, Jordan and Fynn. Brother Boston boards at private school King's College in South Auckland, but returns every other weekend.[4]

In the Media

Jaime briefly came to public attention in 2010 age 16 after being in a car crash in Tauranga while visiting then-boyfriend Benjamin Calvert's mother in Mount Maunganui.[17]

In early 2012 it was widely reported when she began dating rugby player and boxer Sonny Bill Williams,[29][30] who was 26 to her 18.[31]

In 2012, age 19, Jaime and her mother starred in their own highly anticipated six-part reality television show The Ridges. Sally stated that despite their desire to be part of the show, she excluded her three younger children for fear of accusations of exploitation.[1][32] Parore later claimed Sally intended the children to be featured until his lawyer wrote to TV3, and Ridge claimed to have banned son Boston from appearing.[32] The show was based around Jaime and mother Sally's everyday life.[33]

While the first episode debuted in the top five evening shows, the show quickly fell in the ratings.[34][35] Despite the finale regaining viewers,[36] in early 2013 TV3 announced the show would not be renewed for a second series.[37]

In October 2013 Jaime starred in her friend, New Zealand rapper PNC's music video When I Fall Asleep. Throughout the video Jaime is seen wearing different gowns and costume jewellery standing on a beach, walking a dog through a forest, and drinking Cristal champagne.[38]

In February 2014, Jaime and mother Sally spoke out against online bullying following the death of New Zealand celebrity Charlotte Dawson.[39] Previously, Jaime had publically criticised an opinion article speculating as to the cause of Dawson's death.[39] ONE News reported Jaime as being one of the most followed New Zealanders on social media.[39]

Family

In the first episode of The Ridges, Jaime claimed that while Sally and her were best friends,[1][28] she hadn't spoken to her father in years.[1] Jaime has expressed sadness at not meeting new half-brother London Ridge, father Matthew's son with current partner Carly Binding,[19] former member of New Zealand girl group TrueBliss and solo artist.[1] Jaime and Matthew had reconciled by early 2014.[30]

Before their first date, Jaime was positive about a potential relationship between mother Sally and Warren Fenning,[40] owner of Original Print Media Ltd[41] ('New Zealand's most successful screen and digital printing company').[42] He has also been described as a 'residential property developer', with alleged ties to Mark Hotchin, director of failed finance company Hanover Finance.[43] Fenning had recently split with wife Carita.[41]

Sally describes Jaime as very family-orientated, and having a lot of responsibility for younger brother Boston, and half siblings Astin and Mclane 'Chicky'.[4] Jaime has voiced her intentions to have her own children young, to have a relationship with them like she has with her mother.[4]

Education

After moving to New Zealand, Jaime was educated at the exclusive[44][45] Auckland Anglican[46] independent school Diocesan School for Girls.[47] In 2010,[17] Jaime moved to Dio's brother school, the elite[48] King's College, the most expensive school in the country.[49] Then-Prime minister of New Zealand John Key's son Max Key also attended at the same time.[50] Historically an all-boys' high school, since 1980[51] the College admits only a limited number of girls for Year 12 and 13.[52][53]

Despite not intending to work in legal practise,[6] Jaime has been studying toward a six-year Law and Commerce (with a double major in Business and Marketing)[47] degree combination at The University of Auckland since 2011.[1] In The Ridges, Sally revealed that due to financial pressure following her split with Adam Parore,[54] Jaime chose to go directly to university after Year 12, so Sally could save the over $20,000 annual fees charged to attend King's College.[49]

In contrast to a perceived 'vacuous' personality[2] and lack of intelligence,[27] Jaime is a self-described 'nerd'. On The Ridges, both Jaime and Sally described Jaime as studious, and she is seen studying during a modelling job.[54]

Charity work

During The Ridges, Jaime agreed to participate in a charity boxing match.[54] The show covered Jaime training for 7 weeks with father Matthew's former-Warrior team mate Monty Betham. Already underweight Jaime was pressured to lose 5kgs in one week,[31] dropping to just over 60 kg.[55] The show cultimated in Jaime winning the 'KFC Godfather of All Fight Nights'[2] match against fellow TV3 reality television star Rosanna Arkle of The GC.

In November 2013 Jaime acted as the face of Dress for Success Auckland's charitable fundraiser sale The Great Designer Sale.[56]

In August 2014, Jaime and mother Sally both produced pieces for ANZ Daffodil Day Art Auction charity art auction. The paintings, all by New Zealand celebrities, were auctioned off on bidding website Trade Me, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Society of New Zealand.[57]

Career

Jaime describes modelling in print media, catwalks and music videos as a temporary side job.[1] Along with Sally, Jaime is represented by agent and New Zealand's Next Top Model star host Sara Tetro.[31][54][58] Jaime had a part-time summer job in 2014 at mother Sally's partner Warren Fenning's graphic design and printing business Original Print Media Ltd.[59]

She appeared in reality show The Ridges age 18,[2] for which she was reportedly paid $24,000.[33] The show was based around Jaime and mother Sally's everyday life.[33]

After graduating university, Jaime intends to work in business.[1][6]

In August 2014, Jaime collaborated on a jewellery line for women and men with local designer Lindi Kingi.[60]

Personal life

Fellow King's College class mate, Mount Manganui-born Benjamin Calvert, was reported as Jaime's boyfriend in 2010.[17][19] Since 2011, Jaime has dated a series of sportsmen.[61]

In 2011 Jaime dated 20-year-old Whangarei-born former Auckland Grammar School student, 2009 ASB Boys Hockey Young Sportsperson of the Year[62] and Junior Black Stick[63] Dwayne Rowsell.[64]

In January 2012 Jaime left Rowsell for rugby player and boxer Sonny Bill Williams after spending Christmas with Rowsell's family in Whangarei.[64] Rowsell later appeared on The Ridges, in mid-2012 helping work on Sally and Jaime's new house.[1] He was later the May 2013 finalist for CLEO magazine Bachelor of the Year.[65] Jaime and Williams began dating after meeting at an event in January.[29][64] Jaime and mother Sally were at the front row of the fight where Williams became national heavyweight boxing champion.[66] At the time he was based in Hamilton while playing for the Waikato Chiefs rugby team. Williams was 26 to her 18.[31] The couple had ended their relationship by mid-March.[66]

In 2012 Jaime denied a romance with New Zealand rapper PNC,[31] who had previously written Jaime's theme song for her fight on The Ridges.[55] The next year she starred in his music video When I Fall Asleep.[38]

Josh Bloxham

Jaime's current boyfriend is New Zealand basketball player Josh Bloxham, who she has been dating since early 2013.[4] Bloxham was born outside of Christchurch, but Blenheim-raised.[67] He played for Nelson College, and has played for the Nelson Giants from age 15.[67] After twice being a member of the national Under-18 team, he was a member of the 2009 Junior Tall Blacks in Wellington.[67] In 2012 he was named a member of the Tall Blacks.[68] He was one of the youngest ever Tall Blacks at age 17.[69]

The couple met in Auckland while Bloxham was playing for the New Zealand Breakers.[70] Bloxham moved in with Jaime and her mother Sally in mid-late 2013,[4] and accompanied Jaime, Sally, and Fenning to court against Sally's former partner Adam Parore in September 2013.[20]

In 2014 he played for the Nelson Giants.[71][3] In June 2014, Bloxham trialed for the Tall Blacks for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.[3] He has also studyed Accounting at Massey University in Auckland.[71]
