Jahidpur is a village in the southeastern part of Chhatak Upazila in the Sunamganj District of the Sylhet Division in Bangladesh. The population of Jahidpur is over 3,000, and the percentage of education is 60% in this village.

Infrastructure and economy

Jahidpur is a well known and famous village in Sylhet region. Four hundred years old Jahidpur village is situated on the southern bank of river Makunda. This river is ended at the western border of the village and submitted its water to the open low land (hawor). The village Jahidpur is two km in length from East to West. There is a road on the northern bank of river Makunda from east to west of the village. Population of the village is more than 3,000 (2013 AD) of which 98 percent are muslims and the rests are hindus (vedic). All the natives are 'Bangali' in ethnicity. There is one primary school that is over 120 years old, a secondary school, one Dakhil(secondary) madrasah, one hafizia madrasah, a post office, two bazars, three mosques, one Eidgah and a Revenue Office. A girls primary school was also established in Jahidpur by the government of East Pakistan in 1961. On later, it was amalgamated with 'Jahidpur government primary school'. All the institutes, establishments and offices said above are situated on the northern bank of river Makunda.

The economy of majority villagers depends on agriculture. Agro-products are paddy, jute, potatoes and so many kinds of vegetables and spices. In addition, there are some professionals, industrialists, writers, social workers, rotarians and businessmen settled in the town of Sylhet and abroad in London, United States and Middle East. The percentage of education in this village is more than sixty (2013 AD). At Jahidpur bazar, there was a public library named 'Adarsha gono pathagar'(Ideal public library) established in 1984. It was the everfirst public library in the rural territory of Chhatak upazila.

Once, Jahidpur post office used to serve it's official transactions to 30 surrounding villages. It's post code number is 3087.

Since the village is 22 km away from Chhatak upazila administrative office, its communication was not good in the past days, but now a days it is mostly improved and is being developing gradually.

Revenue Office

A revenue collection office named 'Jahidpur Tahshil office' was established in this village. But for the poor communicative infrastructure and to make it easier to collect revenues from surrounding villages it was moved to Radhanagar near of Gobindaganj. Now it is officially known as 'Union Land Office Jahidpur'. Actually this office is being used for collection of land revenue of Dular Bazar Union and Chhoila-Afzalabad Union. A Union Land Assistant Officer, Two Union Land Sub-Assistant Officers and Three Peons are serving in this office.
