Jadyn Maria

Jadyn Douglas (Previously known as Jadyn Maria) was born April 20, 1985. She is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter. At the age of seventeen, Jadyn was signed to EMI/CMG. After shooting an Herbal Essences commercial (deemed a bit too "racy" for the CCM market) and filming the "Split Ends" episode of "What I Like About You" (starring Amanda Bynes), she was released from her deal. In 2008 she signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group. Her publisher (who also represented Ne-Yo) set up a meeting for Jadyn to go to Compound in Atlanta to write/record some original material. She quickly received a call/contract and ended up signing as the first artist on Ne-Yo's Compound Entertainment label in 2008. After business and creative differences, Jadyn left Compound Ent and Universal Music Group to return to her southern roots of Country. Jadyn Douglas started a soul/country/pop trio with her sister (Jaclyn) and brother in law (Blake) called Arten Way. They are currently wrapping up their first independent EP titled "Another Thing Coming", expected to release April of 2015.

In 2011 Jadyn Douglas signed with Innovative Artists NY (The Acting/Commercial Agency responsible for giving Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum their starts). Jadyn has landed roles in TV/Movies such as "Lullaby" (featuring Amy Adams, Garrett Hedlund and Terrence Howard), "Greetings From Tim Buckley" (featuring Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots), The "Brooklyn Heights" episode of "Taxi Brooklyn", etc.

Life and career

Douglas was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico but grew up in Nashville, Tennessee after moving there two years later.^[1][2][3] She was the first daughter born to Rosa and Dan, a Southern Baptist pastor.^[2] Her mother is Puerto Rican. Her family's Christian background meant that she was immersed in Christian music. She began singing in church from the age of two.^[2][4] At the age of seventeen, Jadyn was signed to EMI/CMG,^[5] after being spotted singing at a wedding.^[4] She later appeared on the debut album by former Christian band Avalon member Jody McBrayer.^[6] She was also asked to record a cover of "With or Without You" with hip-hop group GRITS on the U2 tribute album In the Name of Love: Artists United for Africa.^[4][6]

After being spotted by an ad agency, Jadyn and one of her songs, "Rock You Senseless", were featured in Clairol's 2004 Herbal Essence campaign. She also appeared on What I Like About You as part of the campaign.^[4][7]

In 2007, Jadyn signed a songwriting deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, which led to her meeting with R&B musician Ne-Yo's manager and then Ne-Yo himself, eventually signing with his label and Universal Motown after auditioning for its president in 2008.^[1][2][5] She was the first artist signed to Ne-Yo's label, Compound Entertainment and was an opening act for his tour.^[4][5] Jadyn appeared in her friend, pop singer Katy Perry's music video for "Hot n Cold" as a bridesmaid.^[4][5] She also co-wrote the title bonus track from Ashley Tisdale's album Guilty Pleasure. The single, "Good Girls Like Bad Boys" was released in 2009 and featured rapper Flo Rida. Another single, "Trenchcoat and Shades" was released digitally in the UK.^[8] One of her songs "Catwalk V-O-G-U-E" was featured on an episode of the reality series The Hills and later covered by German girl group Monrose.

Under the name Jadyn Douglas, she began taking acting jobs in 2011. In 2014, she launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a 7 song EP for her country music band Arten Way. The band comprises herself, her sister and her brother-in-law.^[9]
