Coaching career
The beginning
He started coaching after he quit playing rugby in 1988 with his former team FC Auch Gers until 1995. In 1995 he arrived at Colomiers with which he won, in 1998,the Challenge Cup. An encore for the European trophy was made two years later by Brunel, this time on the bench of Pau. In 2001, Jacques Brunel entered the technical staff of the French national team under the guidance of Bernard Laporte, training the forwards until the 2007 world cup. After his experience with Les Bleus finished he landed on the bench of Perpignan.
Perpignan (2007–2011)
In the 2008-2009 season he is crowned champion of France. For the next season he reaches the final of the Top 14, defeated by Clermont. In 2011, however, many disappointments on French soil, with Perpignan failing access to the playoffs, what makes him miss the 2011-2012 edition of the European Cup, where he arrived as stated in the semifinals. He is replaced by Jacques Delmas at the end of the season.
