Jackknife clam refers to several species of the genus Ensis and Solen in the family Solenidae, found on Atlantic and Pacific beaches of temperate North America, and elsewhere. All have thin highly elongate and curved shells. These clams are often collected for food. Ensis minor can grow up to 17 cm. in length. It is white, sometimes with reddish-brown markings.
