Jack Viney
Jack Viney (born 13 April 1994) is a professional Australian rules football player at the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He went to school at Carey Baptist Grammar School and Prince Alfred College. He was recruited by the club with draft pick #26 in the 2012 National Draft as a Father-Son selection, as his father Todd Viney had also played for the club. He made his debut in Round 1, 2013, against Port Adelaide at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.[1]
Viney was the Round 21 nominee for the 2013 AFL Rising Star award.[2]
In Round 7, 2014, Jack Viney was involved in an incident with Adelaide Crows player Tom Lynch, resulting in a broken jaw to Lynch, and Viney being suspended for two games. The suspension sparked outrage amongst fans and former and current players especially when the justification for suspension was that he should have 'spun out of the way'.[3] Viney subsequently appealed the two-match suspension given to him, and had his suspension overturned.[4]
