Dr. Jack G. Shaheen is a writer and lecturer specializing in addressing racial and ethnic stereotypes. He has given over 1,000 lectures on the issue across the United States and on three continents.[1] He is the author of Reel Bad Arabs, The TV Arab (1984) and Arab and Muslim Stereotyping in American Popular Culture (1997).[2]
Shaheen is also a former CBS News consultant on Middle East affairs, and professor emeritus of Mass Communications at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.[2]
He is "a recipient of two Fulbright teaching awards, holds degrees from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Missouri."[2] He was also the "Distinguished Visiting Scholar at New York University’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies." [3]
Shaheen was born in Clairton, Pennsylvania, to Lebanese immigrants.[4]
