Charles Henry "Jack" Blackburn (January 1, 1883 – April 24, 1942) was an American boxer and boxing trainer.[1]

Biography

He was born in New Year's Day, January 1, 1883.

A lightweight, Blackburn had a long career in the sport, comprising some 147 professional fights, often against naturally bigger opponents, he fought notable boxing legends such as Joe Gans, Sam Langford, and Harry Greb and finished with a final record of 99-26-19. He later became a trainer, most notably of legendary heavyweight champion Joe Louis.

He died on April 24, 1942.

Legacy

He is an inductee of the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He also appears as a character in the opera, Shadowboxer, based on the life of Joe Louis.[2]
