JSerra Catholic High School is a Roman Catholic high school located in San Juan Capistrano, California and sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange.
In 2006, 2007 and 2008 the school was named as one of the top 50 Catholic high schools in the United States by the Catholic High School Honor Roll.[1] In addition, the school was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for 6 years in 2008, which will most likely be renewed in 2014.
Athletics
JSerra is part of the Trinity League, which includes the Schools Mater Dei High School and Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Other schools include Lutheran High School of Orange County, St. John Bosco High School, Rosary High School, and Servite High School. The school is also seen to have sports rivalries with: Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Dana Hills High School, and Servite High School.
JSerra, in addition to academic studies, offers soccer, volleyball, water polo, swimming, baseball, softball, golf, basketball, cross country, track and field, boys' lacrosse, tennis, cheerleading and football as well as an award winning choral music program. JSerra no longer fields a girls' lacrosse team.
In 2014, JSerra's boy's basketball team went on to defeat Oaks Christian School in CIF. This 2014 basketball team is the first to win a CIF championship in JSerra Basketball history.
Incidents
In December of 2011, Spanish teacher and girls junior varsity volleyball coach Ricardo Aldana was arrested on suspicion of a sex act involving a student under age the 14. In a statement, the school said they were "outraged and sickened" by the charges; they cooperated fully with the investigation and dismissed Aldana.[2] Aldana was subsequently convicted on three counts of sexual molestation and sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in a state prison.[3][4]
