Jōsō (常総市 Jōsō-shi) is a city located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded as Mitsukaido on July 10, 1954.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 42,342 and a population density of 531.40 persons per km². The total area is 79.68 km².
On January 1, 2006, Mitsukaido (at that time) absorbed the town of Ishige (from Yūki District). Then the city officially changed their name to Jōsō on the same day.
