Jörg Schilling
Jörg Schilling (born 1955) is a German computer programmer mostly known as the main author of the cdrtools software suite which he has been actively maintaining since its first release in 1996.
Schilling also worked on the Solaris Operating System and contributes to several projects (OpenSolaris, SchilliX).
Life and works
He is currently employed by the Fraunhofer Society at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) in Berlin, where his main project was the BerliOS open source web site.[1]
Schilling currently maintains a POSIX-compliant tar program called star.[2] He also developed the cdrtools package of CD burning software, which includes cdrecord and the ancillary programs mkisofs and cdda2wav. Following cdrecord's relicensing to the CDDL, the suite was removed from Debian (and subsequently most major GNU/Linux distributions) and replaced with a fork called cdrkit.[3]
Schilling was elected to the OpenSolaris Governing Board (OGB) for the 2010-2011 term.[4]
