IvanoFrankivsk National Medical University (Ukrainian: Івано-Франківський національний медичний університет) is an institute of higher medical education in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine.
The university is situated in Ivano city in northwest of Ukraine and it is a leading higher education establishment of the region of a classical type with a higher accreditation level. The University provides continuity of higher medical education: Junior Specialist – a Bachelor – a Medical Specialist – a Master – a post graduate. The University history started in 1945 and is listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools and in the US FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
The university is one of the few Medical Universities in Ukraine to be designated as a “National Medical University” by the Government of Ukraine.
Brief Historical Importance
IvanoFrankivsk;(also spelled Ivano-Frankovsk), former (until 1962) Stanislav, is a city and administrative center in Ivano-Frankivsk region located in the western part of Ukraine. The city lies along the Bystritsa River just above its confluence with the Dniester River. It is a railway and highway junction of the region. There is also an airport in the city. It was founded in 1662 as the town of Stanislawow. After the first partition of Poland (1772), the town was held by Austria till 1919. It occupied an important position on the northern approach to the Yablonitsa Pass over the Carpathians. From 1919 till 1939, the city was a part of Poland. In 1939, together with all the western Ukraine, it became the part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1945, it was ceded to the Soviet Union and named Stanislav. In 1962, the city turned 300 years old. It was renamed and since that time it bears the name of Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko who often visited the town, wrote and read his works there. In the early 1990s, Ivano-Frankivsk was one of the centers of Ukrainian independence movement.
About University
IFNMU was established in 1945. It is located in Galyskastr 2, 76018 Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. University consists of 12 hospitals and clinics. It is one of the few Universities designated as a "National Medical University" by the Government of Ukraine. It is a member of association of universities, European association of universities, World Health Organization, and other international organizations. About 4000+ foreign students from all over the world including USA, Western Europe, Australia, Africa, India and other parts of Asia. University offers a wide infrastructure containing 48 departments. IFNMU Library is a recipient of prize(2nd degree diploma)of All Ukrainian Contest "Library of the year 2009"
We introducing new ways of education to improve student learning and professional training of doctors performed 51 department. The training process is carried out 73 doctors and 231 candidates of sciences. Among university scientists 6 academicians, 6 Honoured Scientists of Ukraine, 2 Honoured workers of higher education of Ukraine, two Laureates of State Prize of Ukraine .
University scientists involved in the development of four academic state programs of 56 works of applied nature in international multicenter studies.
In recent years, about 200 effective scientific developments, innovations and medical diagnostic technologies transferred to practical public health. Retrieved 14 positive solutions for inventions, 5 patents, including patents Ukraine 4 and 1 Yevropatent (for test system bioindicators of radioactive contamination of the environment).
Through high school established and operated regional centers : pankreatolohichnyy, pacing, occupational diseases, antihypertensive and diabetic clubs.
Quality medical care to patients of the city and the region is provided by scientists of the University in 40 specialties. About 40% of operations performed in hospitals of the city staff of the university.
In high school successfully the specialized scientific council D 20.601.01 three specialties: cardiology, gastroenterology and dentistry. Only in 2010 defended 20 theses, including 3 doctorates . More than 70 people at work on the master and 35 - on the implementation of theses currently in the planning stages 27 doctoral and master's theses.
University scientists are members of, and scientific laboratory base, many national and international congresses and symposia.
Rector of the University, along with council Ukrainian Medical Association became the founders of the magazine " Galician drug Gazette", which operates alongside scientific journal "Archives of Clinical Medicine ."
The University is a national database of student competition on anatomy.
There are classes of computer teaching, Internet, which connected the library, research and teaching departments of the university.
In the dormitories, academic groups worked mentoring system in extracurricular time students are engaged in the circles of amateur, club operates resourceful and inventive . Three teams of amateur awarded the title People . In terms of the revival of folk traditions is room aesthetics.
The University maintains professional contacts with the World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations, management Ukrainian Medical Association of North America, Lublin Medical Academy, universities in Germany, Austria, Poland, all the higher medical educational establishments of Ukraine .

Teaching Staff
Teaching staff is highly qualified and have a lot of experience working with forgien students. The University holds 443 teaching staff out of which 77 PHDs, 264 Candidate for PhD and 19 Academicians.The researchers of the university have achievements in different vast fields including cardiology, pediatrics, internal medicine, kidney physiology and pathology.Most of the teachers and professors have done major contribution to the country in parts of research and achievements in discoveries which got breakthrough in various scientific works.

A significant contribution to the development of university rectors made it :
- Professor Ivan Savitsky (1945-1947), graduated from the Odessa Medical Institute, the first rector of the first head of the regional health department and the first head of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry..
- Associate Professor Alex Sushko Ovksentiyovych (1947-1948) - a graduate of Kiev Medical Institute, assistant professor of human anatomy.
- Associate Professor Yuri Antonov, G. (1949-1951) - a graduate of the Dnepropetrovsk Medical Institute, assistant professor of surgery hospital in the future - a professor, a famous scientist and surgeon.
- Professor Lavryk Semen Semenovich (1952-1953) - a graduate of Vinnitsa Medical Institute in the future - Rector of the Medical University.
- Academician Georgy Ovksentiyovych Babenko - (1954-1980) - a graduate of Donetsk Medical Institute, founder of the school of the biochemical, author of 350 scientific papers, 4 books ; trained 32 doctors and more than 170 candidates. Over 40 years - the supervisor of the laboratory " Trace elements in medicine ".
- Professor Anatoly L. Dekhtyar - graduated from Odessa Medical Institute, led the medical school from 1980 to 1987.

- Professor Ara Harahash'yan Armenakovych - Armenian organizer and participant in the fight against endemic goiter in the Carpathian region.
- Professor Sergei Verkhratskiy Prokhorchuk - Head of Department of Hospital Surgery, famous scientific papers on the history of medicine and surgery ;
- Honored Scientist, winner of the Prize. V. Vorobiev, MD, Professor Efim Petrovich Melman, author of 250 scientific papers, 6 books, which produced 58 doctors and candidates of medical sciences, founder morphological School University;
- Known in Ukraine and abroad abdominal surgeon Professor Seniutovych Vasily Fedorovich and Nestor Seredyuk cardiologist Academician ;
- Professor Larissa Kovalchuk, who started at the university medical and genetic research;

- In the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery is MD, Professor Michael Atamanyuk - the world famous heart surgeon .
- Professor Leonid D. Tondiy heads the department of physical therapy at the Kharkov Institute of Advanced Training of Physicians,
- Professor Vladimir Kopchak continues the tradition of Academician AA Shalimova in Ukrainian Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Surgery .
- Professor Nestor S. Verkhratskiy - Fellow of the Institute of Gerontology of Ukraine.
