Specialization

Ius Laboris is specialized in the area of employment law. It was established in 2001 by a group of labor and employment lawyers from Belgium, France, Spain, Luxembourg, and Italy.[1] As of 2014, the network had 1,300 HR lawyers based in 44 countries and more than 150 cities.[2]

Labor and employment law have traditionally been among the most local forms of legal practice.[3] But recently employment counsel often work with businesses operating across national boundaries. Ius Laboris is one of the novel, networked alliances that law firms are establishing to assist multinational businesses to devise standardized HR policies with the flexibility to meet legal requirements in different countries.[3]

Members of the network offer legal advice on employment laws and culture in their respective countries, in fields such as individual employment rights, pensions, discrimination, restructuring, compensation and benefits, and occupational health and safety. An example of the need for such services was the assistance provided by two members of the network in facilitating a merger between a multinational fashion company based in Italy and a French firm.[4]

Ius Laboris has created an award-winning[5] online guide to labor and employment law in more than 40 jurisdictions worldwide.[6] The network's ranking from legal publishers Chambers and Partners is Elite (Band 1) for Employment.[7]
