István Ballér

István Ballér or Balliér (Slovene: Števan Baler August 28, 1760 – April 2, 1835) was ethnic Slovene Lutheran priest, dean of Zala and Somogy and writer. He lived and worked in the Kingdom of Hungary.

Born in the Slovene Circumscription (Prekmurje) into the village Lončarovci. His schooling was conducted in Őrség and Nemescsó. In Sopron conducted the higher school. First in Kissomlyó he was cantor and teacher. In 1784, he worked and lived in Porrogszentkirály between the Somogy Slovenes. In 1805 he was the dean in the county.

In the 1830s, the Hungarian authorities banned the prekmurian language and introduced the Hungarian language. Ballér opposed the decree and wrote several hymns in the prekmurian language.
